Thanks, Xavier! Appreciate the kind words. Next up is a race between my second Conan, second Gladiator and my third Odin...Not sure who’s going to be finished first.
JoMiHa’s customs ::Conan, Gladiator, Black Knight (v.2 all):: PG 2
Odin 3...third time’s a charm...maybe?
Just finished this guy. same basic recipe as before, except I used magnets this time. I love magnets!!
So the cape is held on magnetically and can be easily removed. There’s a magnet buried under the right shoulder pad and a magnet on the one Raven’s feet to keep him perched there.
Recipe:
ML 5 Colossus, real leather for the cape and loin cloth, Boromir powder horns for the horns, Omega Red shoulder pads, lots of sculpting (the helmet, beard, eyepatch, eyebrow, forearm armor, shin armor, ankles and feet ornamentation and side ornamention). Craft foam for the belt.
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for looking!
BTW, your customs rock. I love the colors that you use… I like Conan the best and the Odin is sparkly :D :D
What camera setup are you using and what do you use for the backgrounds… I need some hints because I do figure reviews and my pictures suck :(
Darth M- thanks, man! For my backdrop, I go one of two ways. I either use a large sheet of matte charcoal paper (various colors), like I used behind Doc Samson, or crumpled tissue paper to give that somewhat cloth backdrop feel to it. In fact, I just rigged a setup using a cardboard box. I cut off all the flaps and cut off the top panel, then using double sided tape I loosely attached the tissue paper following the panelling of the box, giving the figure a place to stand, and also giving some semblance of depth. That’s what I used for my finished Odin pics.
As for lighting, I just use two desk lamps, 60 watt bulbs- one to the left, one to the right, about 2 feet away from the figure. I use a 4.0 MP camera and I alternate between closeup and super closeup mode, adjusting the light balance/contrast as needed. Then of course any other adjustments that are necessary (ie: color balance), I do in Photoshop.
I love that Odin! You need to do a whole Asgardian Box Set. I bet you could get big bucks on Ebay, especially with Thor coming back.
Hey J, Odin is true gold, my man. The sculpting is superb, I love the beard, and the work on the helmet is awesome. The paint apps are so smooth and clean and the cloak and tunic really stand out. What did you use the gold? The magnets worked like a charm, I can’t wait to get some of those to play with. The Ravens and spear are perfect additions to this wonderful custom.
Man, I really want to know where that spear came from.
Beautiful work bro,
Rom

Chris- thanks, man, I really appreciate that! Yeah, Rom and I will have to have a little talk about just that (Asgardian set).
Mike- thanks bro! The gold is mostly Krylon gold spray, but there were certain parts I had to do by brush, using the Folk Art metallic gold. It was a pain in the butt masking off his face, arms and upper legs when spraying the gold. Yep, no idea about the spear… :(
Thanks again guys!
Okay, so this next custom just happened. Came together from parts here and there. It’s a character I created years ago, never gave him a proper name, but I always referred to him as Red Eye, just as a nickname, but the nickname stuck, so he is known as Red Eye now.
Here’s some of the pics I drew of him:
And here he is in 3-D:
Recipe:
Black Panther upper torso, shoulders and head
Bullseye lower torso and legs
Deathlock shins/feet
Blade arms
Katanas came from McFarlane Shiva
Sheaths from Elektra
Gauze for shin and forearm wraps and harness.
Apoxie sculpt for lower abs, back, head, feet.
Thanks for looking!
Dude, Red-Eye is such a cool custom. The sculpt and paint work are excellent. You know, I was wondering if you could give a little bio. I’d like to know his background, powers, and why his eyes glow red?
Great work, bro.

Thanks again, Mike! Man, I don’t have anything formally written, but the dude’s name is Malcom (no last name set in stone), and his older brother is an evil overlord, and his arch-enemy. His eyes are cybernetic- his original eyes were ripped out by his brother. Yeah, there’s some sibling rivalry.
I need to get back to these guys. I was mostly focused on the visual elements, but believe me, I had books and books worth of notes and plot ideas.
Annnnddd....here’s my second Conan. This was a commission. The buyer wanted horns on the helmet, and I think it worked out great. Almost same recipe as the last- Triple H base, casted Sandman face (with resculpted nose and mouth), scars cut in like last time,I sculpted the helmet and horns, the hair is from Triple H. The belt straps and wrist straps are deer skin lace, craft fur for the trunks, sculpted the foot wraps, gauze around the shins, and craft foam for the cuffs. LOTR sword (Boromir) and the skull is from a keychain.
Let me know what you think! Thanks!
Thanks!
Joel
Dude, you know how much I enjoy your Conan. The sculpt and paint work are above and beyond. I love the Sandman’s face, he looks like a total pugilist. And a more accurate Robert E Howard depiction then usually see.
Well done, bro

Thanks, bro! I think our threads are going to be me and you conversing for a while,
Your support means so much to me, man. I couldn’t be happier to be your partner in RSC. Just saying. Thanks again!
Gladiator 2.
Mr. Sinister, ML 3 Wolverine’s arms. Apoxie Sculpt. ML 3 Magneto’s cape. Apoxie sculpt. Craft foam. Apoxie sculpt. Gold craft lace. Superglue.
Thanks for lookin’!
Black Knight
BIG THANKS TO ROMBADO for the inspiration and idea, and for being gracious enough to be cool with me doing him while I had the chance!!!!
Recipe: SMC 17 Hobgoblin body, ML 1 Cap head, gloves. Magneto helmet, DCSH Batman cape, apoxie sculpt, LoTR sword, scabbard, googly eyes, deer skin lace.
I resculpted the neck joint because Cap’s head fit low on the shoulders. Forgot to upload those pics, but I’ll post them tomorrow. (If anyone cares!
)
I kind of redesigned the boot cuff on BK because I liked the sculpt so much on Hobgoblin’s cuffs. I think it works nicely.
And standing next to Tony…
Please tell me what you think! Thanks for looking!
