Rombado’s Customs~SPIDERMAN 3 “New” pg5~Index pg1

Marvel Legends, Custom Wolverine. I created Wolverine using a Marvel Legends, series 3 Wolverine figure, This is his new uniform from the Wolverine, Astonishing X-men, New Avengers, etc. comic books :D Wolverine has 36 points of articulation and is completely posable and playable. I cut down and reshaped the Mask and boots, and the belt is handmade. However, the added bonus is the extra head, that you can switch out with unmasked Wolverine as Logan.

:superhero: There’s nothing more pleasing to the eye than a Rombado custom! That X-23 chick is 10x better than the Toybiz version. I know one thing, i would not want to be kicked by her. Storm Shadow is freakin awesome! I’m no customizer but i know it takes a lot of guts to pull off a custom with that much “white” and not noticed any bloches. That has to be the best custom featuring an all white outfit i’ve ever seen. Jessie Falcon would be proud of you Big Mike. That Wolvie is sweet too. I can see all the detail you put into him. Your passion and dedication to making the best customs comes across in all of your work. Keep up the good work Big Mike. I expect to watch your popularity and fan base continue to grow.

You know I love ‘em all, Mike. That Storm Shadow is so clean and perfectly executed- and even though I hate the character, I still want that X-23!

Awesome job, bro.

Thanks guys, for your wonderful comments.

Black Bolt, Thanks Ricky, wow dude, your post just blew me away. I’m so honored to have a pal like you on my side. I can feel my head starting to swell from all your posting goodness. Thanks again buddy.

JoMiHa, Thanks partner, when I can make a character you want like X-23. Well, that’s what it’s all about

Thanks again,
Rom

Hey y’all, next up is a commission piece for our very own Curvezilla. The mascot of Komikazee, the Komikazee Hero himself.

This is the reference pic that was done by Andy Smith, based on the costume design, by our very own Averagejoe. I tried to match my figure to both of these artist wonderful work, with just a little bit of Rombado realism thrown into the mix.

I started with a Ultimate Cap for the base, so KH could have the presence he deserves. First, I cut down the joints and star on his chest. Then I began by sculpting the crotch. Then I started to smooth out the chainmail with razor thin Apoxie. Next, I sculpted the arms, now this was pretty tricky, b/c I had to turn his sleeves and gloves into flesh.

Next, I completed the covering of the chainmail, sculpted the top of the boots, and added a little flesh base coat.

After that, I sculpted the midsection, hands, lower boots, shoulder and chest symbols. Then I attached the head and went with Robo’s fishing line technique.

Following that, I applied my first base coats.

Finally, I applied my stains, drybrush and washes. The rest is, yep you guessed it, good ol’ elbow grease.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention. The palm prints are base off of my daughter’s hands. Man, they got a real kick out of having themselves become part of my work.

The right palm is my daughter Krissy.

The left palm is my daughter Katie.

Beautiful job, Mike. I absolutely love that you used your daughters’ palms as the basis for Kom’s palms (hey that rhymed).

The paint apps and sculpting are both top notch and the use of the Angel head is brilliant.

Whoever the buyer is (wink wink) should be extremely happy with this guy (wink wink). Got something in my eye…

Yeah i have to agree with JoMiHa about the palms. The palms are a work of genius. Nothing like personalizing your customs, huh? What a total metamorphosis! No one would ever know that the Komikazee hero was Ulitmate Captain America. Another masterpiece BM.

Thanks guys, for your wonderful comments on KH.

JoMiHa, Thanks Joel, you know my girls are still super syked about the palm prints.

Black Bolt, Thanks Ricky, your post always make my day, buddy. KH, was a pretty tough custom to complete, but was well worth it in the end.

Thanks again,
Rom

Well, I just finished my Black Knight today. I should have had him done a week ago, but a killer toothache put all work aside for last week. After seeing JoMiHa’s, which was spectacular, I got a few new ideas. Thanks Joel for the inspiration, buddy :D

Alright, let’s just jump right in. I started with a Hobbie body, and AA head. The first step was to sculpt the shoulder pads and chain mail collar to match the rest of his body. Next, was add a little base coats.

I sculpted new gloves, and for the helmet I started with Mags helmet, from the old TB figures. I then sculpted the faceplate and helmet details. The wings are modified from Thor’s, cut down a bit.

The tunic is from BS Elektra, then sculpted to blend in with he fabric.

More base coats and washes.

At first, I was going to paint on his chest symbol, but then I got the notion. Why not just sculpt it on, for a more real effect, so that’s what I did. It’s done from a single piece of AS, with the spaces cut out around it.
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Well, I think that’s about it. Oh yeah, the cape clasp were sculpted on right after I attached the cape, I just forgot to take a pic. So, w/o further delay I present, Black Knight.

Absolutely fantastic Black Knight custom Big Mike. I love how the helmet fits. The cape is small enough that it doesn’t over shadow the figure from behind. The detail is marvelous as expected from a Rombado custom. The only problem i have is the bulkness of the custom. I like a little more meat to my personal customs. Otherwise, a great piece of work. Although, there is one thing missing. The horse. Other than that Big Mike you got another winner.

Congrats to Big Mike Rombado on the sale of the Black Knight on Ebay!

Thanks Ricky, you are such a good friend. I agree with the smallness of the sculpt, that’s why I went with the tunic, to help hide the thinness of the figure. Man, I would love to make his horse, I just didn’t have anything to use for a base. Except my daughter’s Barbie horse, which of course would have been to big. Maybe next time though.

BK ships out to the UK, on Monday. I think I’m going to have to make me another one, b/c I already miss him. You know that’s the same thing I did when I sent you your Black Panther.

Thanks again bro,
Rom
