Iowa Moves to De-Regulate MMA

by: DarthMolen

In a weird move by the State of Iowa, their senatorial body moves 35-12 to de-regulate MMA in the state

While most of the other states are scrambling to regulate the sport, Iowa has gone the exact opposite way in an effort to limit the liability that the state could incur from damages to an athlete in an “ultimate fighting” event. The body as a whole claims that MMA is barbaric and points towards possible repeated blows to the temple from a persons back as one of the culprits.

Never mind that the move they are claiming is easily defensible and is not one of the more dangerous moves (see full mount position). Never mind that MMA has a 1 knockdown rule. Never mind that boxers, Boxing being a legal and regulated sport in the state of Iowa, receive hundreds of blows to the head over a 12 round period and multiple standing 8 counts that results from concussive knockdowns that can lead into major brain trauma and a catatonic state.

The funny thing is that the rules they claim that MMA adheres to (such as no blows to the back of the head or groin shots) are actually kept in place by regulations from bodies such as the Iowa senate and if that protection is rescinded, then the sport can literally descend into barbarism. Go look up some NHB (No Holds Barred) events on Google.

The irony of this whole affair is that Miletich Fighting System, one of the largest and most prestigious camps in MMA, is based out of Bettendorf, Iowa. Also, they have one of the largest collegiate style wrestling populations in the country and they should be used to combat sports by now.

So listen to the Iowa Senate. Regulated MMA is dangerous and from the devil.
