Dana White, the UFC President, has finally put his cards on the table and is allowing us to see his "hand" for 2007. He confirms the purchase of the WEC, WFA contracts, and much, much more.
The OC Register was at the weigh-ins and posted this absolute fantastic cornicopia of audio clips. The best one of the night was Dana finally bringing to light his plans for world domination. Here were some of the highlights if you don't want to listen to the audio
- Confirms the purchase of the WEC. Wants to make it #2 MMA organization in U.S. Doesn't want WEC to be looked at as a feeder show. No trading. No swapping. UFC vs. WEC will be equivalent to RAW vs. Smackdown!. Equal levels.
- Confirms Rampage contract purchase from WFA
- Spurns Showtime for going with "Rumble on the Rocks" promoter. Says that when they failed, they can have the WEC.
- HBO will have the UFC if in fact they use Zuffa, and not the WEC.
- UFC plans more Fight Nights for 2007 for SPIKE TV.
- 4 to 5 fights in the U.K. 1 or 2 in Canada (One being April 7th). Possibly branching down to Mexico.
- UFC is showing on Azteca Spanish Channel right now, specifically the Ultimate Knockouts 1 and 2 and they will be running the run-up show to UFC 66: Lidell vs. Ortiz all week before the fight.
- Matt Hughes vs. GSP rematch is scheduled for April 7th in Canada.
- UFC Plans to go all over the world and country in 2007 and do their PPV's and Fight Nights
